What is the Suzume no Tomodachi (Friend) Program?
Suzume no Tomodachi is a voluntary program designed
to welcome new families and to foster a sense of
community spirit and support. A new family will be
paired with a returning family, who will serve as
that family's "Tomodachi," or "Big Buddy."
What is the time commitment?
Both
the new and returning families will be invited to a
couple of fun social events in order to meet and get
to know one another. The first will be an informal
Welcome Reception at the New Parents' Orientation
Meeting from 6:30 to 7:15p.m. on Tuesday, February
26, 2008 (Orientation for the new parents will be
immediately after the reception, so returning
families can leave at that time). The second
opportunity will take place during the school
session on a date yet to be determined. We are also
asking that the returning family(Tomodachi) contact
your assigned family before the session starts to
answer any questions the family may have and to
share some of your own personal Suzume stories and
experiences based on your child(ren)'s time there.
As soon as possible, we will let you know with whom
you've been paired.
You Can Make a Difference:
Remember feeling a bit overwhelmed or intimidated
when your child(ren) first started going to Suzume?
Contributing a little bit of your time will make a
big difference to these new families.
